This limited in availability Dragon Phoenix Pearls has been a highly respected favorite since the Sung Dynasty, 800 years ago. Grown in the misty, cloud-covered mountainous shared border of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, Dragon Phoenix gets its name from the ancients who thought the visual characteristics of the tea bushes climbing mountains looked like a Dragon rising out of the water.
Superb in form and fragrance, the tea is picked in early May and is hand-fashioned by twisting exceptionally long downy leaf bud sets together and rolling them into silvery pearls. Once rolled, the tea is wrapped in silk mesh cloth and dried by a wood kindled fire to set the form. The tea is then held until September when the finest jasmine blossoms are in bloom. The jasmine flowers are picked before noon and set-aside until evening when the petals begin to open in the cool night air. Once open, the tea is then married seven times with fresh, aromatic jasmine flowers, then the petals are removed. Each pearl combines two delicate leaves and an unopened bud. When added to water, the pearls majestically unfurl, releasing their delicate scent and flavor. A stunning treat for all senses.
